Long weekend generally means,

A day off to stretch weekend dreams…

I volunteered

(No–that’s not weird!),

To work for another site’s team.

At one point I was full time,

At that site for a time…

Got transferred here

And stayed fourteen years,

But work over there on the side!

The officer I’ll work for,

One weekend a month has a chore…

In the Reserves

He proudly serves,

i cover his post at “Lake Shore”.

It is a gatehouse and gate,

Occupied early to late…

Four AM to noon

An eight-hour tune,

Saturday at my overtime rate!

I choose to stay on my feet,

I miss them if I’m in a seat…

See  decal and wave

Or stop them and brave,

Them turning  back to the street.

i work my Friday late second shift,

Then for a few hours drift…

Off to sleep

My schedule keep,

Awakened for the four o’clock shift!

Not time to go back home,

So sleep with my C-PAP on “zoom”…

Two-hour dreams

Go quickly it seems,

And then it’s time to move on

(to the gate house shift).

Long weekends for most are thrillers,

Mine is more of a killer…

But worth helping out

Some sleep without,

This weekend will be a chiller!

About Jonathan Caswell

Poet, author, servant of God the Heavenly father and the Lord Jesus Christ...working out his salvation with fear and trembling. - Not trusting in his own deeds, but depending totally upon the finished sacrificial work of Jesus Christ to be, by God's reckoning, a new creature, clothed in Christ's righteousness...which mortal humankind can never attain by their own weak efforts, apart from faith in Christ's work on our behalf. - College-educated, yet wise enough to see that what a man does will not be his ultimate identity nor affect how God sees him or her. - Called by God to do a very difficult thing...apart from God's grace, mercy and love the sinner (which we all--by nature--are) but hate the sin, which is only paid through Christ, God's Son, - My own God-given gift is that of being a Poet..showing that in all parts of life...God has a loving part in hard as that is to always understand or perceive...given life's realities! Come join me on my journey of discovery?.
